Inky Hatched Floral
Often when I begin an artwork it is a meditation and what emerges comes as the process unfolds. This floral illustration is an example of this and is completed with ink pen on watercolor paper. The density of hatching nears pitch black in moments, creating a depth of field and a feeling of a landscape from the ground perspective. The overall darkness of the piece hints at a liminal time of dusk or sunrise, as the flowers are highlighted while the rest of the piece remains in shadow. Moments of sky are visible at the top edge of the piece that hint at a rising or setting sun while the detailed hatching throughout creates a sense of movement from wind.
